RC Racing

A keen group of radio controlled model yacht sailors has recently emerged from our membership. All dinghy sailors who appreciate the convenience of being able to sail on the reservoir without having to get wet, hike harder! with quick set-up, launch and no changing required means many races can be completed in a session and the model yachts can tack and gybe quickly so are well suited to our reservoir. 

The chosen class for racing is the Dragon Flite 95 which is a cost effective, one design class. You can have a new boat set up with 3 rig sizes, radio transmitter and batteries for circa £800. Everyone has the same boat and kit so it just comes down to how well you set-up and sail the boat. Quite a challenge as the boats are highly tunable having more controls than a typical dinghy.

The group are planning to hold a race series over the summer typically on Saturday mornings and also an evening during the week. We aim to be a registered club with the Model Yachting Association soon.

Membership of the club for solely radio controlled sailing is covered by social membership which is just £40 pa. We have free car parking and members can access the club throughout the week.
